Living Systematic Review & Network Analysis

Network analysis of AI diagnostic clinical trials in Sub-Saharan Africa (N=11, 2019–2025). Observed fragmentation among formally registered trials is the defining structural characteristic, consistent with an early-stage field with limited cross-trial collaboration.

Network Analysis Metrics

47 entities across 11 trials
Key structural finding: The observed fragmentation among formally registered trials is the dominant structural feature — each of the 11 trials forms an isolated component with no institutional bridges between trials. Betweenness centrality is zero for all nodes; this should be interpreted cautiously, as the bipartite trial-institution structure inherently suppresses betweenness centrality regardless of underlying collaboration patterns. Degree and closeness centrality are perfectly correlated (ρ = 1.000), consistent with a nascent, disconnected field.
Network metrics calculated using direct trial-institution relationships (11 trials, 36 institutions). The low density (0.092) and zero betweenness centrality reflect a fragmented structure typical of an early-stage field, not an integrated collaboration network. Caution is warranted when interpreting derived metrics from a dataset of this size.
